In November of 1945, St. Saviour parish was established in Rossmonye, Ohio by Father Joseph A. Dauwe under the commission of Archbishop John T. McNicholas. The purchase of 11 acres of farmland for a new parish site was made in May of 1946. On Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947, Father Dauwe presided over the very first Mass. The first parish festival was celebrated on September 8, 1946. In the years that followed, a convent adjacent to the school was opened, a new rectory was constructed, and Our Lady of Fatima grotto and a shrine to the Holy Family were erected. Moreover, a Remembrance Area, which includes a Book of Life, vigil lights, and the names of all the deceased parish members, was dedicated in the church.
156 students were enrolled in St. Saviour's first school, which opened in the fall of 1947, with four Sisters of Charity serving as teachers. To cater to the growing student population, a new school building was dedicated in 1950. At the height of the school's operation, nearly 1500 students were enrolled and taught by 15 Sisters of Charity teachers and 15 lay teachers. The school building is now leased to Linden Grove School, a private, not-for-profit school that offers an alternative education program for students with special needs. They have been leasing the building from the parish since August of 2003. The parish welcomes them as a great neighbor and resource to our local community as they continue to spread their mission.
