St. John is a Fourth Third Better Celebrating 133 Years A century and a third ago, St. John the Evangelist Parish was founded on a sunny Sunday. The cornerstone for the first church building was laid 133 years ago, on Sept. 27, 1891.
We followed that with a school building and a bigger church building. For generations, we’ve gathered for Mass, baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, weddings and funerals.
We’ve had prayer, music, sports, societies and festivals.
As Deer Park grew, our community of faith became part of the larger community. For instance, St. John is the assembly point each year for the Deer Park Junior/Senior High School homecoming parade.
Our big parish celebration for four thirds of a century will be on Sept. 22. We’ll start with a special anniversary Mass at 10:30 am, followed by fellowship in the courtyard.
